Abstract:
Taking 40 hybrid combinations and their 22 parental lines as the test materials to investigate the heterosis performance of seven quantitative fruit traits by calculating heterosis indices method,in order to provide reference for breeding and geretic improvement of thin-skinned melon varieties in Guangxi.The results showed that in terms of traits such as single fruit weight,flesh thickness,and central soluble solids content(SSC),the mean values of the 40 hybrids were lower than the mean values of their parents.Furthermore,more than half of the combinations exhibited negative mid-parent heterosis,and few combinations showed super-parent heterosis.Based on a comprehensive analysis of mid-parent heterosis,super-parent heterosis,heterosis away from the mid-parent,and the heterosis index,six combinations (Z15,Z26,Z21,Z4,Z8,and Z12) with desirable overall performance in sweetness,single fruit weight,and flesh thickness were selected.
