Abstract:
‘Hanlian No.1’ is a new variety of lotus root (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.),was systematically bred from single plant mutation of Nanzheng Chai lotus root. The plantlet is shorter and compact and has a yellow and spinous bud seedling. The floating leaves show yellowgreen and nearly circular. The full leaves have rough and thicker surface, small blade, and thorny petiole, showing green and oblate. Its white flower is sparse and broad oval and contains 16-18 single petals that are supported by a bowlshaped receptacle. The lotus root expresses a white and smooth surface and mainly consisted of the leader rhizome with 4.2 nodes. The middle note is barrel and the transverse section stuffed with the white meat.In Hanzhong basin,‘Hanlian No.1’ belongs to the earlymaturing variety with growing period of 105 days and the mean yield is up to 1 914.38 kg per 667 m2 according to a 2year variety trials and 1 year production experiment.Additionally,‘Hanlian No.1’ has strong resistances of lotus rhizome rot and leaf spot.Consequently,‘Hanlian No.1’ is suitably grown in the regions where the altitude is smaller than 800 m in Hanzhong basin of Shaanxi Province and similar ecological zones.
