Abstract:: The effect of top removal of spring shoots in their different growth stages （from late April to late July） on growth and flower bud formation of new shoots were studied with 3-year-old peach variety of ‘Chun Mei’ on the peach rootstock as experimental materials.The results showed that top removal could inhibited their diameter increase and reduce the secondary shoot number at the early stage of growth in late April （at the length of spring shoots about 15 cm).Top removal at each growth stage had no significant effect on the diameter and length increase of the secondary shoots.All top removal treatments had no significant effect on the flower bud formation of spring shoots，and the treatments except at late April(top removal at the length of spring shoots about 15 cm) could significantly promote the flower bud formation of the secondary shoots.Top removal at the early growth stage of spring shoots(before late May) could significantly　reduce no bud shoots rate of the secondary shoots.Top removal or not had high no bud shoots rate of the third shoots.
