Abstract:
Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element necessary for many organisms,including humans and animals,which is also important for disease prevention and treatment,keeping health and senescence delay.This paper reviews the mechanism of Se action involved in senescence delay and induction of stresses resistance in postharvest fruits and vegetables,especially for function of plant physiological of Se,effect of Se on fruits and vegetables growth and development,the influence of Se in delaying senescence of fruits and vegetables and inducting of biotic and abiotic stresses resistance,and significance of Se-enriched fruits and vegetables.Finally,we proposed some suggestions about Se in delaying senescence and improving stresses resistance ability of fruits and vegetables.
