Abstract:
Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is the second important vegetable in China.Male sterility is one of the most important traits in hybrid pepper breeding.In this study,the anther morphology of three lines,sterile line,maintainer line and restorer line were observed.And genetic analysis of the separation of pollen fertility was conducted in a F2 population with 249 lines derived from the cross between 9108A (a sterile line) and 3414-3-5 (a restorer line).Significant difference of anther morphology was observed among three lines.The anther of sterile line was small and shrunken with no pollen,whereas the anther of maintainer line and restorer line was bigger with abundant pollens and the matured pollens were full of starch.In addition,based on the analysis of the ratio of fertility segregation in F2 population,three genic recessive genes were responsible for the male sterile,of them,a photo-thermo sensitive gene existed.The observations would facilitate the further study on the photo-thermo sensitive characteristics,to isolate and select PTGMS breeding lines,and thereby to accelerate the breeding process of pepper hybrids.
