Abstract:
Based on the balanced panel data of watermelon households survey in Hubei Province，this paper analysed the change and decomposition of the total factor productivity (TFP) in Hubei Province during the period of 2010—2014 by using Malmquist index approach.It also analysed the reason of change based on the questionnaires.The major conclusions were as follows.Watermelon industry of Hubei Province total factor productivity growth was mainly driven by advances in technology，rather than technical efficiency change.The growth rate of the technical efficiency change of watermelon in Hubei Province was mainly driven by advances in scale efficiency change.Therefore，improving the sci-tech progress and expanding the scale of watermelon were important ways to improve the efficiency of watermelon production of Hubei Province.
